A strong relationship exits betwen El Plomo and the Santiago valley. The mountain's impressive glaciers contributed to the formation of the valley's principal water resources - the Maipo and Mapocho rivers

In addition, El Plomo's altitude and massive stature make it a natural reference point for the valley's inhabitants. The Incas, who established regarded it as a sanctuary, performed important ceremonies on its summit (Capacocha).
The best evidence of this is the mummified boy who, in 1954, was unearthed from the ridge that leads to the summit.
The Mummy of El Plomo had remained within the mountain's heights, frozen in time, for more than 560 years.

It`s possible to climb by three different routes, Normal rute, Iver Glacier Rute & Colgante Glacier Route.
